Chaise Longue
2006

Chaise Longue is organically formed and styled for different sitting postures, beyond the standard lying or upright predetermined positions. The chair therefore gives the freedom to determine a very personal sitting position.
The chair consists of two equally important parts, each part relying on the other. When the parts combine, the chair becomes usable. The first part includes a lying area, which flows over into the armrest and then flows again into a seatback; the whole form continues in a flowing and streaming line around a circular-shaped structure. The second part contains the sitting surface, which can be located freely within the circular structure.
The form of the circle is exceptionally organic but is also built up in a logical and structured manner. The starting point of the circle is almost horizontal, and then flows gradually up to a more vertical position until it is almost perpendicular to the floor. From this point further, the line continues down again to the horizontal. Indefinite sitting positions can be found within this ring, from a sitting position to an active reading position and a supportive position. The outline begins low down and gradually rises upwards.
The object is expertly handcrafted in aluminium, similiar to the vintage cars of old which were created by coachbuilders. The aluminium is then hand-polished to form a jewel-like finish.
As pictured work in progress, this project will be finished soon.
